Prepare to move from Umbraco 7 to Umbraco 8

It’s almost time to say goodbye to Umbraco 7 and welcome Umbraco 8--the first major release in five years!--with an extra special hello. But before we do, let’s take a quick look at where we are and where we’re going.

Umbraco 7 is an open-source CMS that hosts a wide range of content and media types. We’re supported by a community of users around the world and offer professional tools and support to our customers.

The dashboard is easy to navigate, has great personalisation features, and is SEO friendly. Umbraco 7 CMS has a range of available APIs and options to add plugins. Using Microsoft’s .NET technology, Umbraco CMS is also secure and scalable.

The solution is well suited to businesses that have a wide range of online activity, require complex technologies, and operate across multiple platforms. One of the main reasons our customers love using Umbraco is that our UI is so user-friendly that it is often employed by whole organizations--not just the content team.

Introducing Umbraco 8

Umbraco 8 is in the dressing room and it’s about to take centre-stage.

vIt is the latest version of our CMS with improvements to all of our much-loved features, but the exciting news is that we’re introducing a whole host of new ones that will redefine website generation as we know it.

Umbraco 8 includes native support for multilingual content with Language Variants and a new extension concept called Content Apps adding new content-aware functionality. Technical improvements include a brand new cache system, some really great performance enhancements, and upgrades to the codebase that make it even easier to contribute to.

The show-stopping feature of Umbraco 8 has got to be Infinite Editing, which offers users a seamless editing experience.

Infinite Editing supports modern, non-linear content creation without compromising the editor’s workflow. Whether you're creating advanced landing pages that combine blocks of content with personalised media assets or building flows of content for a chatbot, this feature will allow you to “zoom” into the detail of each content element without losing sight of the bigger picture.

As with any feature of Umbraco, Infinite Editing also provides an API that allows developers to utilise this feature in their own extensions as well as for tailoring the Umbraco back office. This makes it easier to include rich details and complex configurations without the risk of losing the user in it all.

Five years in the making, Umbraco 8 is going to be bigger and better than ever before and we’re so excited about the launch. Ladies and Gentlemen, content creators and web developers, sit tight, it’s almost time for the grand reveal.

Umbraco Community Builder | .Net MVC Developer | Umbraco Certified Master | Recruitment Professional

Hey Peeps,

I'm an entrepreneur and web developer with a passion for coding. I absolutely love working with Umbraco CMS and appreciate the Umbraco community even more.

I've got 10 years+ .Net experience and 7 years+ experience working in the recruitment industry, both coding and marketing job websites. I wanted to use my skills to help give something back to this awesome community and so I decided to build UmbraJobs.com.

My vision & fundamentals

I want this website to be a place where Umbraco Professionals and Umbraco Partners can advertise their services but at the same time I want to filter out all the under-qualified freelancers & agencies that take up the biggest part of other job & freelancer websites. We've all worked hard to gain our Umbraco certifications, partnership status, and help build the Umbraco community to what it is today. I want to see everyone get rewarded for their efforts.

Follow me on social media

If you're an Umbraco professional, partner, employer, recruiter or a passionate Umbraco community builder then I'm more than happy to hear from you. Follow me on my social media channels and please reach out if you have any needs, want help or consultation with anything Umbraco related or just want a general chat.
