Umbraco 9 Git Ignore

Here is a very simple example of a gitignore for Umbraco 9.

# Visual Studio Code
# Rider
# User-specific files
# Build results
# Visual Studio 2015

One thing I will point out is with the models builder I choose not to store the models in the default folder which is 'umbraco/models' the reason for this is I don't think the 'umbraco' directory should be stored in Git.

Moving my models to a different folder allows me to remove this folder from Git and at the same time check in the models into Git so the rest if the team do not have any initial build errors complaining about missing models.

You you are interested on reading more about models builder I wrote a blog about this.

Getting up and running with Umbraco 9 Models Builder

If you are interested in how to protect your connection strings and exclude them from Git I wrote a follow up article called 'Umbraco 9 - Protecting ConnectionStrings from Git'.

Hey Peeps,

I'm an entrepreneur and web developer with a passion for coding. I absolutely love working with Umbraco CMS and appreciate the Umbraco community even more.

I've got 10 years+ .Net experience and 7 years+ experience working in the recruitment industry, both coding and marketing job websites. I wanted to use my skills to help give something back to this awesome community and so I decided to build

My vision & fundamentals

I want this website to be a place where Umbraco Professionals and Umbraco Partners can advertise their services but at the same time I want to filter out all the under-qualified freelancers & agencies that take up the biggest part of other job & freelancer websites. We've all worked hard to gain our Umbraco certifications, partnership status, and help build the Umbraco community to what it is today. I want to see everyone get rewarded for their efforts.
