7 Must-Have Plug-ins For Umbraco

What’s not to love about Umbraco? It's easy to use and it simplifies routine developer tasks. But there are solutions out there that can help make it even more useful than it already is. Here is a list of Umbraco plug-ins to help complete projects with efficiency and ease. And that’s not all; these plug-ins can also be modified to help build Umbraco websites.

1. Azure CDN Toolkit for Umbraco

Azure CDN (Content Delivery Network) integrates with Umbraco to increase website performance. This toolkit, designed by Azure and compatible with 7.5x, optimises URL paths for assets and images and ensures that URLs go to their absolute paths. This is advantageous for content that needs to be continuously updated. This is because redirects will be minimised, and your website will naturally perform better.

Why use Azure CDN? If you have any of the following assets or files that need CDN, you will find Azure helpful.

● Static Images, JS, CSS ● Cropped or uncropped images supported by Umbraco ● Common PDF and DOCX files

2. SEO Metadata for Umbraco

The SEO Metadata app stores and preserves SEO information including page title, meta tags, meta description, keywords, etc.

The plug-in allows you to add and append the SEO details for your Umbraco website. The best part is, it also gives a visual depiction of how the page appears in the search engine results. Like the Yoast SEO plug-in, it recommends a good length for search descriptions, and sends notifications when it is too short or too long. The plug-in can be used across multiple domains. Like Azure, it is also compatible with 7.5x.

3. reCAPTCHA field for Umbraco Forms

The reCAPTCHA plug-in protects Umbraco websites from spam. reCAPTCHA is similar to CAPTCHA Google in that it protects your website from bots. Unlike CAPTCHA, however, it’s much easier to use. It’s more user-friendly, allowing users to verify that they are human (not a bot) in a single click instead of the more time-consuming process of solving CAPTCHA puzzles. It also works with 7.5x and on the Umbraco Cloud.

4. uSplit

uSplit is a marketer’s dream app, executing A/B testing quickly and effectively, allowing Umbraco users to set up A/B split experiments for a variety of different campaigns. The plug-in automatically syncs with Google Analytics to evaluate data, and is also compatible with 7.5x.

5. Smart Blog V2

Smart Blog v2 is used to create blogs for Umbraco websites. What makes Smart Blog v2 a great app is that it integrates any basic blog with an Umbraco website. The best function it serves is as a blog starter kit that helps people who struggle with MCVs (Model View Controller). It is compatible with 7.3.x.

6. uSync

Want a more in-depth data syncing app? The uSync app moves bits of Umbraco data to a disk, and then allows you to copy and move Umbraco site content with ease.

Like its name suggests, uSync is a database that synchronises Umbraco data. Once it syncs the information, uSync gives complete control to copy and move your website between computers and servers. It recognises many different types of data, including: media types, languages, dictionary items, templates, style sheets, macros, and document types. Like many of the others, this plug-in is compatible with 7.5x.

7. Page Comments Plug-in

What’s unique about the Page Comments Plug-in is that it lets visitors comment on any page of an Umbraco site.

Its biggest benefits are that it protects the privacy of those who go to your Umbraco site, while allowing you to manage and monitor user comments, providing email notification, and approving comments automatically. It comes with Google reCAPTCHA which protects your site from spam, and is compatible with Umbraco 7+.

Hey Peeps,

I'm an entrepreneur and web developer with a passion for coding. I absolutely love working with Umbraco CMS and appreciate the Umbraco community even more.

I've got 10 years+ .Net experience and 7 years+ experience working in the recruitment industry, both coding and marketing job websites. I wanted to use my skills to help give something back to this awesome community and so I decided to build UmbraJobs.com.

My vision & fundamentals

I want this website to be a place where Umbraco Professionals and Umbraco Partners can advertise their services but at the same time I want to filter out all the under-qualified freelancers & agencies that take up the biggest part of other job & freelancer websites. We've all worked hard to gain our Umbraco certifications, partnership status, and help build the Umbraco community to what it is today. I want to see everyone get rewarded for their efforts.

Follow me on social media

If you're an Umbraco professional, partner, employer, recruiter or a passionate Umbraco community builder then I'm more than happy to hear from you. Follow me on my social media channels and please reach out if you have any needs, want help or consultation with anything Umbraco related or just want a general chat.
